I always try and make it to BKB when I'm in London/UK. I've never been disappointed over the past 6/7 years; whether it's the food, staff or ambience.

Have been coming to this restaurant for many years although my last visit was about 6 months ago. Until my visit last week it had been my favourite restaurant. I had dinner last week with a couple of friends. Service was poor - unattentive staff and very slow. Chateaubriand was dry and overcooked (we ordered medium). Although we did complain and they came out with another serving overall experience disappointing and will not be heading back there any time soon.

First impressions were good, a crowded vibrant room. The waiter didn't tell us that we had to vacate the table by 9pm until we had been seated and he'd served us some drinks. Our food was just plain bad - limp, woozy, on the turn oysters - the service is patronising, I have had oysters before thank you, and I know when they are off. the ribs were dry and arrived without a finger bowl. I asked for one and even then it took 10 minutes to turn up. The bill took forever to come, then the waiters disappear when you are trying to pay it. Complacent.

Great decor, great atmosphere and well managed music policy....food is delicious and menu comforting, varied and, on the night we were there, all delicious. My roasted cod was cooked to perfection with lovely crispy skin and sweet-as-you-like roasted vine tomatoes. Other diners munched on burgers and steaks and it was pretty hard to get a word out of them until all had disappeared. Mountains of chips were however left behind - portions are more than generous (which is no bad thing in my eye). Only complaint is the service. I know it's hectic, I know it's Soho, but on more than one occasion i was left standing waiting for waiters to move out of my way whilst they stood arguing over something or other. Not a good look. Our waiter, although nice enough, made no real effort which, when 12.5% is added on at the end, leaves you with a slight nasty taste in your mouth. Which is a shame as the food left only yumminess.

Nice venue, good food, but this bar/restaurant must have the rudest staff in London.

Customer Care appears to have disappeared long with manners, politeness and civility. As an antidote to the sweetness of ‘Mary Poppins´(which is across the road) the staff appear to have adopted a tone which combines the charm of Attila the Hun with the care Harold Shipman!

An averagely nice place but probably a bit pricey for what it is. We got a table at 7pm and had to leave at 9pm, so things were a slight rush by the end, but food was served promptly without feeling too hurried. Wine was expensive but good - a £25 bottle of rioja. My starter - scallops - was pleasant and the main course - chateaubriand for two - was very tasty but was a little dry for 'medium'. All in all - a cut above but not as good as it would like to think it is.
