just had an excellent lunch at this very authentic Japanese restaurant in Soho. The black cod was the best I have ever tried. Would definitely recommend!

we arrived at 8.30 and we tried to booked 2 tables but they was too crowded, so at the first we was shocked.

But in the other hand you have frindly staff and efficient, your service is very attentive and friendly.

The decor was stylish, modern and elegant.

The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The choice is a little limited for vegetarians becouse my girl friend's is vegetarian.

I went here with a friend on Friday evening and to be honest was a little disappointed. The food was quite mixed in quality. For instance, the black cod was very nice, yet the sashimi was bland.

Service was fine, although a bit hurried - the main course arrived within 5 minutes of the starters being cleared away. Saying that, the staff were polite and efficient.

Overall, for the price I would have to say that I was rather disappointed.

We took a chance and didn't book hee on a Saturday evening in January. We were lucky; although the restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived at 7.15pm, by 8pm in was absolutely full. We ate downstairs as it seemed more intimate.

From the outset, the service was excellent. The staff were courteous, quick to respond to questions and made sure we were happy. Our starters arrived one by one, which was great as it gave us a chance to try each one on its own merits, and plates were whisked away very quickly once they were empty - and all of them were emptied rapidly.

For the record, we had the Edename beans, duck and walnut salad (excellent) and tomato and squid salad (also excellent) for starters. Between two this was plenty. We both love Sushi and Tempura, so then had the squid tempura which was probably the freshest-tasting we've ever tried. Then came a special selection of fish on a rice bed which was just like eating sushi en masse - great! A couple of sushi pieces each (octopus, california rolls and scallop) and then a main course. My wife had the eel and I took the miso cod. Both were excellent, and although we really ordered slightly too much food, it gave us a good chance to taste most of the choices on the menu.

The bill was very fast in arriving, payment was taken promptly, but we weren't rushed out of our seats for a second sitting. In all, the experience was excellent. By the way, we tried this restaurant on the strength of the review on the website. Thanks!

Excellent total experience... food, service, atmosphere. Chef Yamamoto-san and his team are to be commended on presenting a most enjoyable evening.

First, we should note we had high expectations in dining at So. We had been expats in Tokyo in the '90's and had the opportunity to dine at Yamamoto-san's restaurant. We had thoroughly enjoyed ourselves then, and made a point to visit So when we were in London.

The food was prepared and presented in the manner expected of the finest restaurants. The tastes were subtle, but complex with different levels building and complementing each other. It was obvious that the menu had been well thought out and executed to perfection.

The service was equal to the quality of the meal. The staff was very attentive and managed the pacing of courses to allow the right time to appreciate the meal.

The decor of the restaurant was equally tasteful in its clean and calm Asian atmosphere. We chose to sit on the lower level, facing the kitchen. This allowed us to periodically look up at the sous chefs as they prepared and plated the dishes. They take obvious pride in their preparation of each item.

In the end, we enjoyed and appreciated, an excellent meal and experience. We highly recommend it.

The set lunches are excellent value. I have been here several times and have greatly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The tempura is delicious and served with the restaurant's own special sauce as well as the usual mirin dip. The sushi is fresh and beautifully presented and the accompanying miso soup was of very good quality. There is a daily vegetarian dish on offer so vegatarians need not feel excluded.

Fab restaurant, and absolutley the best sushi I have tasted in London.

I have a tastelondon membership/diners card which allows me to save 50% off the total food bill every time I eat at So, so as well as the food been great the price is even better.

I would really like to see So restaurant work (as it was fairly quite), as it's clear they care about what they are doing with this in mind I would recommend them to all and sundry. So really does deserves to succeed.

We went to SO Restaurant last night and it was GREAT

The price was very reasonable. For a 5 course set menu and 2 bottles of wine, the bill came to £85 for 2 inc service.

The food was of very high quality, fresh, varied and very well presented. The service was professional, warm and genuin.

So Restaurant is an absolute must if you love Japanese food and feel uninspired by the Sushi chains.

Like Atami I decided to try out this restaurant as it was on a 50% off offer, being traditionally wary of fusion Asian fare in London, known for over charging (e.g. Zuma) and not quite adding up as a sum of the ingredients used (e.g. desserts at Yauatcha). However that said So Restaurant serves up pretty decent fare here (much better than Atami) - the mixed sushi set at £14 for 5 pieces (iberico ham & miso, smoked duck & apple confit, foie gras in teriyaki etc.) was possibly worth the price being charged; the soft shell crab roll was above average (though not as good as the spider roll in Zuma); the scallop and daikon (£8) was a generous portion by central London standards with 4 scallops; while the crab croquettes (£9 for 2) actually tasted like crab! That said the grilled iberico pork (£14.50) was slightly dry and tasteless, so was the black cod (£14). The pumpkin creme caramel was extremely generous serving for £4 and although I felt slightly let down by the main courses I would probably return for another visit (albeit only on 50% off offer) to try out the other dishes. Our bill came up to about £110 for two and as with most restaurants we had to remind them that the reservation was made under this website (hence the 50% off offer). To the credit of the japanese maitre d he apologised and gave us the revised bill without any fuss. I must also mention the English chap who was extremely polite and attentive throughout our meal. I am not so sure I would be paying the original prices on the menu but I would recommend trying out this restaurant whilst the offer is on and decide for yourself!
