Ping Pong (Marylebone)

The most awful Dim Sum in London ever! Soggy, wet and tasteless - completely contrary to their slogan of 'little steamed parcels of deliciousness'. Any experienced Dim Sum punter would tell you that the food is not authentic. And having cocktails with Dim Sum is out right inappropriate.

A famous physist (Wolfgang Pauli) once described a student’s offering as “not even wrong.” Because “wrong” implies that by changing the constituent parts of the thing it could become correct. Ping Pong isn’t even a restaurant.
The whole operation is so fundamentally awful and flawed on every level it is irretrievable. Pack up guys, you’re an embarrassment and a disgrace.

fake chinese dim-sum in a fake japanese setting. how authentic can this place be? the dim sum was wet and sloppy. the service was awful (the usual 'uber-popular' waiter attitude). the food isn't cheap either. will definitely never return.

Went for the lazy Sunday offer and suffered some of the worst service I have ever had. Waiters pretty much ignored us and when I asked for the bill they completly neglected to total the offer - £16 per head and overcharged us. We spotted it asked for the service to be taken off (there was no service) and the waiter then messed up the 1st transaction - the second time around he cheekily put the service charge on again.
Appaling - they didn't even ask why we wanted the charge taken off.
Plus points ? Good Martinis - very good Martinis. We had to have a few to get over how rubbish the experience was.

Bland food. Ersatz Japanese decor. Appalling music. So-so service. For exactly the same money you can get excellent dim sum elsewhere in London.

I was pleasantly surprised though not overwhelemed here. The food was certainly not bad and arrived in a timely fashion as dim sum should. The cocktails were good, well-designed and respectably made-up. Overall a sort of Yauatcha-For-The-People. The staff were helpful when we went and although I am familiar with Chinatown Dim Sum was happy to be given their advice on quantity of platters etc. Certainly there were no semi-mystical/sexual experiences when biting into a shumai as you might experience at the aforementioned Yau place or E&O. But here's the great news; we had eight plates, three cocktails and two teas which came to fifty-quid all-in between two. Perfect for a post-pub snackaroo. Especially when on a date and a kebab shop is not an option. Only joking, I don't need an excuse to avoid most kebab shops, but would be happy to take absolutely anyone to somewhere like Mangal. Mmmm, another trip up north-east London is long overdue. Anyway back to this place.... what was I saying? Oh yes, you simply must have the jasmin tea, which is more like one of those paper plant water garden thingies I was once given as a nipper, than anything resembling our national beverage. My main concern is that since Ping Pong is a chain, as it grows it is bound to develop the tendancy multiples have of focusing so much on cutting costs, that the original concept is lost amid second-rate ingredients cack-handed chefs. Lets hope this one doesn't start on a slippery downhill and end up at the bottom of the quality pile like Wagamama has managed to. Then again, Wagamama was never that great even in the beginning I seem to remember. To sum up; good nosh, very stylish interior, pleasant staff, not a destination in itself but would go back.

Went with 2 friends on a Thursday night, no tables, asked for downstairs - girl on door said outright "no". Shared a table with 3 others, which was okay. Drinks & food came quite quickly but quality not great. With so many other great restaurants around they need to do better than good decor to get me back there.

Went to Ping Pong last night for a birthday party. The staff seemed a little apprehensive in dealing with group of ten.
Other then that the service was ok.
The food was great and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
We will be back!!

My friends and I had been looking forward to eating here but we left feeling very disappointed.
The food was over priced and the portions weren’t even value for money.
It wasn’t authentic Chinese dim sum and the steamed prawn dumplings didn’t look or taste freshly made. You’d definitely find better and cheaper in China Town.
On a positive note the guy serving us was very cheerful and coped well serving all of the customers seated in the basement. I would recommend the Jasmine tea but that’s about it.
I think my best friend summarised it best “definitely style over substance”
