Ate there recently for the first time. One of the most enjoyable meals I have had in a very long time.

Delicious dublin bay prawns followed by perfectly cooked sole. Stunning food.

I gather as per some reviews service can be slow - we were there on a pre-theatre sitting on a saturday nignt - restaurant full but service prompt and attentive.

Quite expensive but worth every penny.

Do not go on a Sunday night. Packed and slow service. And the fish pie was lukewarm at best.

They were too busy looking after John Cleese at the next table to notice that anyone else was in the restaurant.

Been a few times - this time so disappointed as to warrant a BAD REVIEW.

I have eaten here four or five times, spread over several years.

Delectable food not madly over Avant-garde, served by well trained staff.

They appear knowledgeable in all aspects of their work and seem to enjoy the job.

Obviously Skeekey's isn't the place to go if you don't major in fish and it's kissing cousin shellfish, but like I say the cooking is divine.

As an added bonus it is one of the few places in London where you can get a genuine dry martini that is a veritable dessert in a glass. It fair puckers the lips as any martini worth the title ought to.

This is an expensive night out but per mouthful worth every penny.

Adding up all the mediocre meals I have eaten over the years that hovered around the £45 mark and were frankly passing poor to inedible this is value at £100+. That does depend on wine and drinks and stuff like that.

The ambience is great as well and the people spotting is always good fun, discreetly done.

I went to this restaurant last Saturday, and had the most delightful meal of plaice, brown shrimp and samphire, I could have eaten it again and again. The service was faultless and the staff were very pleasant, definitely eat there again.

My wife and I stayed up in London for our 1st wedding anniversary and decided to visit J Sheekey's based on the reviews on this website.

I'm pleased to say that we weren't disappointed. We received a warm welcome and the staff were attentive without being overbearing. My wife was on crutches and there was always someone on hand to move the table for her to get in and out easily.

The food was extremely well cooked and presented although the portion of John Dory that I had left me wanting more. No such complaints with the Gilt Head Bream though, it was exceptionally tasty and a good size. The dessert selection was good and I can highly recommend the iced berries with white chocolate sauce.

The only negative is that the restaurant isn't closer to where I live !!!!

Highly recommended.

J Skeekey never fails to deliver outstanding food and a top level of service...I have yet to be disappointed. I often show up without a reservation and they always try their best to find room..even if it's at their fabulous new oyster bar area...sometimes I prefer it there. The oyster bar has a different menu to the main restaurant and the dishes are smaller and size but this was a great idea as it works as most people will have the oysters and two smaller dishes or four if you're sharing.

I've tried most of them...fish pie, atlantic prawn cuury, fish stew, crab bisque are all wonderful! The oysters are beautifully presented.

Their wine list for both the oyster bar and the main restaurant is outstanding and we often enjoy a great quality bottle for under 30.00 pounds.

They have a no music policy...which is perfect after a hard day and you just want to enjoy a nice glass of wine and oysters.

The place is always busy and with the great front of house team and food it's easy to see why.

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

Friday, September 02, 2011 - The portion itself was huge. Adorned with a shard of bacon, I was breaking off tender flakes of slightly salty fish, being mellowed out with runny yolk and potato. Rich and extremely satisfying. The other slabs of fish around me looked perfectly cooked and I even managed to snaffle a taste of the lemon sole which was simply done, finished with a squeeze of lemon and tasted excellent. A special mention needs to go out to the chips. Be they triple cooked or no, they were crisp and evenly fried on the outside, maintaining an almost silken texture on the inside. One of the best chips I have ever had in London.

Monday, March 08, 2010 - I usually prefer fish to be cooked just ever so slightly under. It means that the fish is still flaky and yet manage a consistent spring in its texture. And I judged this Pollock to be cooked to those parameters, just the way I like it. It was well salted, which brought out all the fleshy flavour, and the fish flaked off with the slightest prick of the fork. The cream sauce, dense, carried a mild flavour, with a mellow fragrance of leek and saffron. Accompanied by juicy river exe mussels and a coarsely tussled mash, the dish was another exemplary example of refined simplicity.

Gourmet Chick

Gourmet Chick - 7/10

Thursday, April 23, 2009 - The feel is very old school and clubby reflecting J Sheekey's history that dates back to 1896. It is wall to wall mahogany decorated with black and white pictures of theatre luvvies on the walls…Our plate of smoked salmon beautifully presented with lemon halves wrapped in muslin could have been more on the generous side but we had no complaints about the quality of the delicate almost buttery folds of salmon. The knockout dish was the squid with no issues about meagre portions here two giant pieces of squid are grilled and served with a slight smokiness permeating the white juicy flesh.
