It was my birthday and I was very unhelpful when my husband asked me where I wanted to go 'somewhere that does fish' I said. We began the evening seeing a really awful Gerard Depardieu film and arrived at the restaurant in a negative mood. But from the moment we stepped over the threshhold - half an hour early for our booking -to the moment we left, the attentive but invisible staff were wonderful. My tuna starter and cod main were delicious - and I couldn't help stealing some from my husbands plate too. 3 starters, 2 mains, 2 deserts a bottle of wine a coffee and desert wine came to a very reasonable £150 - now I need to go back to try all the other dishes!

I was introduced to J.Sheekey several years ago and always enjoy a night out here. Over the years I must say that I enjoy nothing more than eating oysters at the bar. The service is still as good as ever and you get to hear the buzz from the restaurant. The nice thing about the bar is that it is a little less formal and there is no passing traffic! I simply love this place.

Only slight blip to an excellent meal last night was my wife didnt enjoy her main course. We didnt make a fuss but the waiter noticed she left quite a bit so asked her about it and then the desserts were on the house. They dealt with it very discreetly and professionally. These guys are really switched on, they are not in the slightest complacent and really care about customer service. Without doubt one of the best restaurants in London. By the way, the grilled monkfish is superb!

I absolutely love this place. We went this weekend to celebrate my parents' 30th wedding anniversary and I really cannot fault any aspect of our visit. Food is completely divine: the razor clams were interesting and delicious; shellfish risotto was the best I have ever had; fish stew was a cut above and the monkfish was fabulous. The off-the-menu honeycomb ice cream is a complete must (and at £4.75 is significantly cheaper than other dessert options). Service was with a smile and all questions were answered quickly and helpfully. And the complementary plate of petit-fours embellished in chocolate with "Happy Anniversary" was a nice touch, very well received.

Enjoyed a meal at this lovely restaurant on a Thursday evening.
When we arrived, the staff provided an extremely warm and friendly welcome. During our meal, they also managed to strike the right balance between being attentive but not intrusive.
The decor consists of wood panelling with touches of art deco but does not feel in any way impossing. The general ambiance is comfortable and relaxed and not too pretentious .
The food was delicious. The crab pate tasted divine and in no way proccessed. The smoked haddock with egg and bacon was extremely tasty without being too salty. Not huge portions but filling all the same. Didn't have room for desert so, opted for coffee and truffles. Wonderful!
Would definitely return and recommend to others.

called in on 23 July on spec - expected to be disappointed - met with the friendliest greeting ( not the frosty how 'dare you walk in here without a reservation atitude of some places) and immediately offered two seats at the bar- had eaten at JS many times but never at the bar and decided to give it a try. We had a wonderful evening - staff at the bar in great form - the Gavi - oysters and John Dory sublime- it could not have worked out better - Far from being second best to te restaurant the bar is not a consolation prize and has an atmoshere all of its own.
have booked to return very soon

We dined here on Saturday 21st July. Had very high expectations, but we were a bit worried having read these reviews.
However, it turned out to be a wonderful experience, from the moment we walked in we were made to feel completely at home. No stuck up airs & graces, just polite, friendly, efficient staff, ever attentive without being obtrusive.
The food was just superb, we started with oysters, followed by seared Tuna, Razor clams, Cuttlefish & Scallops. Slightly too much Chilli for the delicacy of the Scallops, but otherwise perfect.
For mains 3 of us shared a HUGE portion of Roast Shellfish & the 4th member of the party chose a mixture of fish,(should really only be available as a dish for 2 people to share, but they very kindly made an exception for us!) All absolutely fantastic. There was just so much shellfish that 2 of us had to give up.
Dessert was equally appealing & a couple of bottles of very nice house wine completed the evening.
I have nothing but praise & will definitely be eating here again, despite the bill. £346 for 4 people, with drinks & 3 courses plus oysters, hardly cheap, but woth every penny!

Went for weekend set lunch menu on Sunday at 2pm. Restaurant was fairly quiet but did get busier around 3pm.
The meal was nice enough but we felt generally disappointed with the whole place. Lunch coset £133 (2 three course lunches, 2 glasses of champagne and a bottle of wine + tip). Extremely overpriced. Would not have minded paying that if the experience had been out of this world but it wasnt. It was all very ordinary to be honest. The fish pie is meant to be amazing but I have had a much better fish pie in the Loch Fyne restaurant at Covent Garden. Given the thousands of other places to dine in London, I very much doubt that I would ever go back here again.

We dined at J. Sheekey on a Saturday at 8pm having booked ahead three months in advance. I had high expectations for our evening as I am a fan of seafood and was aware of the reputation of this particular restaurant. The first disappointment was the wine list which, although extensive, didnt really get our pulses racing. We decided on Champagne, the ever dependable Bilecart-Salmon Rose. The staff were jovial and attentive, definitely one of the highlights of the visit. My starter of Razor Clams was tasty but hardly a complicated concoction. I went for the Cornish Stew as my entree - what an anti-climax! The fish was overcooked and tasteless which is simply not good enough from a fine dining establishment specialising in fish! I persevered with it not wishing to be too negative but had to admit defeat. From that trought the meal soared to a final peak as I was presented with a bowl of delicious ice cream for dessert. The Sauternes wasn't that bad either. So all in all, not bad, but not that good considering the name and the struggle to get a table in the first place. I doubt J. Sheekey is worth a return visit.
