Restaurants Opening Soon in London

Adam Byatt (Trinity) and Karl Goward (ex-St John Bread & Wine) will open a neighbourhood bistro in Clapham Old Town on February 10th. The British menu will include dishes like allotment minestrone, steak and chips, and guinea fowl kiev. The restaurant will serve afternoon tea, bar snacks and English drinks like Orchard Pig cider and Sipsmith spirits.

Chef/proprietor Andrew Dargue from Vanilla Black will open a second vegetarian restaurant on Sicilian Avenue in Holborn on February 9th. Orchard will champion British ingredients and offer meat-free dishes at breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as to take away. A deli area will offer seasonal produce, fresh eggs, butter and freshly baked bread.

On February 23rd, a new Carluccio's restaurant will open on the former site of Colony in Marylebone. The restaurant will include the chain's new bar format - an aperitivo bar - which will serve Venetian-inspired snacks, Proscecco, cocktails and Peroni on draught.

Russian restaurant Mari Vanna will open in Knightsbridge on March 1st. The menu will include traditional borsch, pelmeni (veal dumplings), stuffed cabbage leaves, and harcho (a rich Georgian lamb soup with rice).

Masterchef's Gregg Wallace will open a 90-seater restaurant at the Bermondsey Square Hotel on February 27th. Replacing Alfie's, the restaurant will serve Gregg's take on his childhood favourites - boiled beef and carrots, lobster thermidor, Angel Delight and spam fritters. Gregg already owns Wallace & Co in Putney.

Italian chef Bruno Barbieri will open a new restaurant on the former Cafe Luc site in Marylebone on March 5th. It will be called Cotidie, which is Latin for 'every day'.

Opening in South Kensington on March 14th, Umami will offer a menu of sharing plates with influences from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Korea. Served in two sizes, to taste or to share, dishes will include beef rendang, red snapper with sweet tamarind and chilli, and tamarind duck with mange tout.

A new tapas restaurant with a Basque focus will open in Marylebone in March. Head chef Tomasz Baranski (ex-Barrafina) will be serving up dishes like croquetas, stuffed squid in ink, and pil-pil cod.

Vivek Singh, owner of the Cinnamon Club, will open a new restaurant and bar in Soho on March 15th. Situtated on the former site of Red Bar on Kingly Street, Cinnamon Soho will have a similar feel to Vivek's Cinnamon Kitchen. Alongside the a la carte, the restaurant will offer an all-day breakfast menu, pre and post theatre options, a set lunch of two courses for 15 pounds or three for 18, and a late night supper menu of tasting plates.

In early 2012, Sushisamba will open at the top of the Heron Tower on Bishopsgate. The group already have restaurants in New York, Miami and Las Vegas. The restaurant will serve a unique combination of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine.

Restaurateur Claudio Pulze will launch a new Italian restaurant at the Vinopolis wine tasting venue near Borough Market in early 2012. Del Mercato, which will be situated in the Stoney Street railway arches, will be divided into a bar, an osteria serving pizza and light lunches, and a restaurant serving traditional Italian dishes in the evening.

Peter and Arjun Waney (Zuma) and Giuliano Lotto (Il Baretto, Aurelia) will open a new Italian restaurant in Mayfair this spring. The 120-cover eatery, Banca, will be situated on the former site of a Natwest bank on North Audley Street.

The Marriott Hotel County Hall on Southbank will launch a new restaurant and bar in March. Named after the famous 18th Century caricaturist (James Gillray, Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar will offer a British menu with a focus on steak and seafood. Diners can look forward to Foreman's smoked salmon, venison sausage rolls (in the bar), and a signature 'Bull' Head' steak - a 1000g-butterfly cut, double rib steak served with the bone in.

Designer Paul Daly will reopen the old Walkabout site on Upper Street as Rattlesnake in early 2012. The new venue will offer bar snacks, live music and a rooftop terrace.

Restaurateur Martin Morales and chef Alejandro Bello will open Peruvian restaurant, Ceviche, on Soho's Frith Street in March. Diners will be able to perch at the bar, sip a Pisco Sour, and watch the chefs prepare sustainable fish in the traditional marinade of lime juice and chilli.

In 2012, Caprice Holdings will open The Ivy Cafe - a 90-seater all-day restaurant - on Curzon Street in Mayfair. It is said to be the first of several branches they are planning to open in London.

In April 2012, the Vegas-inspired Hippodrome Casino will open in Leicester Square. Set over four floors, the £35 million venture will include a live entertainment space, vast gaming areas, and the Heliot Lounge Bar & Restaurant. The restaurant, situated on the balcony overlooking the main gaming floor, will serve modern British and European dishes.

The Diner's sixth London restaurant will open on Shaftesbury Avenue in early 2012.

Chris Corbin and Jeremy King (The Wolseley) will open an all-day French brasserie and bar near Piccadilly Circus in 2012. The Art Deco interior will be designed by David Collins who previously worked on The Wolseley and Bob Bob Ricard.

In April, the Bulgari Hotel & Residences will open in Knightsbridge with a flagship Italian eatery - Il Ristorante. The head chef will be Robbie Pepin, who previously worked at Aubergine, the Four Seasons in Florence, and two Alain Ducasse restaurants in Italy.

New York's Andre Balazs (The Standard, The Mercer) will open a boutique hotel in Marylebone in 2012. Situated on the site of a disused fire station, the hotel will be home to The Standard Grill - an American bistro style restaurant.

Chipotle will open their fourth London restaurant on St Martin's Lane in mid 2012.

In 2011, Gordon Ramsay will open a new 'casual' restaurant named Union Street Cafe near Borough Market in Southwark. The project will take up two floors of the Harling House building and be overseen by Stuart Gillies, who worked on the reopening of the Savoy Grill.

"Sam and Eddie Hart confirmed this morning that they have secured a site at 43 Drury Lane in London's Covent Garden for a second Barrafina tapas bar. The new Barrafina, planned to open early 2012, will closely mirror the original Frith Street restaurant which opened in 2007."

Following the huge success of his all-day brasserie in New York, Keith McNally will open a London outpost of Balthazar in early 2012.

The Vinoteca team will open their third modern European restaurant and wine bar in Soho in 2012.

Coming Soon: A second branch of Jamie Oliver's new British chain, Union Jacks. Diners can look forward to starters like ham hock terrine and potted prawns, alongside a selection of wood-fired flatbreads with British inspired toppings like slow-braised oxtail and brisket and Cornish sardines.
