Sumosan review by Anon

I agree with reviews about the service. The waiters can be slightly abrupt, the guys at the sushi bar are not particularly friendly/helpful/engaging.

We had some sashimis to start (Yellowtail, salmon toro etc). The quality of the fish was pretty good, though they were so cold that they tasted slightly clinical without much "flavour". I have had better sashimi in Defune, Miyama and even Nobu at times. The toro was a little too chewy and not "melt in the mouth". However the rolls were very tasty, although I have a suspicion that they contain some ajinomoto (oriental MSG) because my partner and I were so thirsty the whole evening. The sushi is served with very little rice, and as I'm very picky about sushi rice (Flavour, texture, density etc.) I thought the rice here wasn't exemplary. OK, but not good enough to justify the prices. Miso soup was of a darker and saltier variety, perfectly good, but still not "Fantastic". But then it isn't that great at Nobu either. I think this polace is probably better for their more "unusual" untraditional dishes, liek the Yellowtail with truffles etc. They even have Okkonomiyaki, which is Japanese-style pizza which you don't get often in London Japanese restaurants. I'll go back and try some moreunusual dishes, but save your money for better sashimi elsewhere.
