Hard Rock Cafe review by Michael Pickett

A group from work decided to go out for the day up to London and the place chosen to eat was the Hard Rock Cafe. Looks fairly nice from the outside but as soon as you walk in thats as nice as it gets. Guided downstairs to a packed area, stopping in everyones way 4 or 5 times while we are directed to the bar. We had to wait 20 mins or so for the table, quite a long time but I can accept they are busy. Eventually we were seated at a table which would be politely described as cosy!! Bearing in mind our group of 9 are all pretty slim we just about managed to fit in. We ordered our starters and waited a fair while for them to arrive. They all looked very nice and large portions so we tuck in..... oh dear no cutlery!! So we ask for some knives and forks, we then wait, and wait, and wait a bit more. Then after asking a few times great they cutlery arrives.... 4 forks!! Forget it we'll use our fingers. So we tuck into some half decent cold starters. Then when were nearly done more forks arrive and a few knives. Apparently they had run out?? Then when they come and collect our plates were told to keep our dirty cutlery so we can use them for our main!! Next onto our mains, half an hour later they arrive, well some of it arrives. For the four of us who chose fajitas our wraps and fillings had arrived but no meat. Everyone else eats and just as they are finishing off some 15 minutes later our meat arrives. By then our side orders of chips were cold but to be fair they were replaced no problem. I was pretty put off by this stage so only ate a small amount which wernt that great. Other people were quite happy with their food so not all bad. Tables probably took another 25 minutes before being cleared and drinks were taking a good 20 minutes to come after being ordered. Deserts were requested by a few but one asked if he could have a desert to which the waitress replied yes but then walked off! So he had to wait another 10 minutes before she came back so he could tell her what he wanted. Had our desert and a few more drinks then asked for the bill. The bill arrived and automatically included was a £43 pound service charge on a bill for £330. Im happy to pay for service provided it is half decent. To be honest the waitress was fine but we all agreed it had been poor all the way through our visit. So we came up with the £330 plus a little extra for a tip. The waitress counts the money then with a funny look checks the bill. Then with a sarcastic comment of 'guess you want us to take the service charge off then' walks off. Great our meal is finally over and we can leave. By now we had been in there for 4 hours! Some of that time was because of drinking but mostly because of the severe delays in food and drinks being served to our table. The nightmare is over and we leave. All in all a really bad experience which spoiled our fun day out for our christmas celebration. Have since found out that others have also had the same problems previously. If only we had known that before we had gone.......
