Galvin review by Jaye Thompson

Went to Galvin for the first time last night to celebrate my partner's birthday, and it was a winner on every level. From the first moment walking through the door, being met by a wonderful maitre'd, fantastic service, and one of the best meals I've experienced this year.

A simple starter of foie gras and chicken liver parfait, was creamy and light, and matched with a gorgeous red onion marmalade, whilst my partner's fish soup was rich, hearty and flavourful, without being overwhelmingly 'fishy'!

The best main course of the year was a Supreme of Chicken lainard - tender, slightly crisped on the outside - served with tagliatelle in a light sauce and, rich woody chanterelle mushrooms.

Essentially, this is unpretentious french bistro fare served in one of the most handsome dining rooms in the city. I'm just a little upset it's taken me this long to get my act together to go there!
