PJ's Grill (Covent Garden) review by Jo Garvin

After having a wonderful meal at PJ's on The Fulham Road we thought we would try this one in Covent Garden. We found the staff to be very friendly and efficient, the ambience was OK except we were sat right at the back near the back door where people were in and out to have a smoke so it was chilly at times. The decor is quite 'tired' and I have to say the food was not good at all. Our soups were cold so we sent them back - they came back a little warmer but not hot enough. My husband and I had the belly of port which I have to say was the worst I've eaten, well actually I didnt eat it. The meat was quite cold, the mash was just about luke warm - the red cabbage although hot was quite tasteless - the whole dish just looked and tasted like it had been cooked some time ago and then warmed up. The presentation was pretty poor too. So, a real disappointment - such a pity as the staff were really nice. I feel this restaurant is probably catering for the tourist trade because I cant imagine anyone going back on a regular basis.
