The Depot review by Katrina
Having read the rather negative review about the Depot I really have to put the record straight. I have been going to the Depot for years and I truly cannot find that the food or the place have lost its sparkle.
I went for lunch on a Sunday and we were lucky to get a seat by the river which is always so nice to sit there and watch the river going by. We were greeted courteously and because there was a little wait for the table decided to have a drink at the bar. Five minutes later our table was ready and we could sit down and were immediately offered a variety of bread which was delicious with fresh butter. We got fresh water in a jug and the wine we ordered was lovely, crisp and cold. As a starter I had the crispy duck salad which was very good. As a main I had the fish cake which I loved. My friend had plaice goujons which he really liked and then he had roast pork, a traditional English Sunday lunch.
We opted to share a desert which really was fabulous. I don’t think I have ever tasted anything so delicious. Really great. It was called Lemon Posset which was just fabulous. A real taste explosion of lemony cream, oh it was so good. .
All in all the Depot is a really wonderful place to eat and it might be a bit pricier than you local but then again it is British cooking at its best. Don’t be put off by people who write negative stuff, as I said I have been going to the Depot for years and I still love it. And judging by the buzz on that Sunday lunch time probably a lot of people think the same.
