Orford Saloon Tapas Bar review by David - Stratford

After much deliberation, my brothers and i decided to take my mum to the Orford Saloon for her birthday. First impressions as we walked in were good, warm and cosy and the smell of fresh ingredients being cooked really got the mouth watering.

Tables were a little on the small side, but not cramped enough that it became an issue. Mixed feeling about the service...yes the waiters were polite and attentive, but a little bit on the serious side. I liked that the owner was milling around helping at the bar and slicing cerrano ham and so on...he seemed like good character and obviously takes pride in his restaurant.

The food, well...being Spanish, my expectations were always going to be very high...inevitably comparing dishes to those of my favourite restaurants back home in Spain. Overall the quality was good, for me the two dishes that stood out most were the Calamares and the Langostines al Ajillo, very nicely cooked and very fresh ingredients.

While i wasn't blown away by my dining experience at the Orford Saloon, we did all come away quite satisfied. Best Spanish Tapas Bar in London?...not in my opinion...but certainly worth a visit none the less. The bill for 5 of us came to £115, not at all bad considering we had 2 bottles of wine and approx 2 dishes each...finishing off with coffee.
