Cargo review by Anon

You don't go to Cargo for a full-on restaurant experience, they do perfectly decent snacky bites that line your stomach well enough for a night's drinking without making you so full as to preclude any dancing. I know the place well and have been going here on and off for years. So it was with confidence that I recommended to a friend that she book a large table for supper to celebrate her birthday before we hit the adjoining club. The booking procedure was so over the top and completely impersonal. She had to fill out a fax and confirm numbers and agree to pay charges if people didn't show. Quite off-putting. Once we got there the service was laughable. One really uninterested waitress for a table of over 20. Fair enough, we thought, the food was fine and the drinks flowed (so long as we went to the bar to fetch our own). But when the bill arrived, there was the requisite 12.5% whacked on, which grated given the unpleasant booking and almost complete lack of service. For the first time ever, we didn't pay it. We tipped a smaller amount, still generous given our shoddy treatment. What we received were bar snacks, not silver spoon restaurant service warranting a tip of over £50.
