Viktor review by Disappointed Diner

The reason I decided to try Viktor was because of the great reviews it received on this site – and the 50% discount was also appealing.

Although the appetizers were decent, I was highly disappointed I’m afraid. The Salmon Shitake Shirataki was ridiculously salty – all the salty flavours had soaked right into the mushrooms and the salmon was left bland (but pretty). There was also deep fried seaweed surrounding the dish – or it could have been the cabbage trick – but the point is, it was over cooked and uneasy to eat. Gindara (black cod dish) was somewhat bland! Having said that, the black cod was well prepared in terms of texture. Finally I asked if the Tempura Ice Cream is fried ice cream. I was told it was. Firstly, they only had vanilla as an option for the Tempura Ice Cream (must have a green tea option in a Japanese restaurant!), secondly, the ice cream ball was not coated in tempura ice cream batter – it was a cake mixture of some sort and finally, I don’t think the ice cream ball was fried?! At almost £8.00 for a ball, that was quite a scam. I have yet to find the real deal fried ice cream in London – if anyone knows where I can sample some – let me know!

The lack of Japanese people in staff and diners is a small sign itself. The service was top notch though. However I will not be going back and I would not recommend anyone to make a rush for the 50% discount even though it does expire in a couple of days.
