Sauterelle review by Roy Mootoosamy

We chose Sauterelle to celebrate our anniversary as I was keen on some real French cuisine and to see the "new" Royal Exchange. In short both absolutely stunning. Our table overlooked the Grand cafe where you can see both the hustle and bustle of the ground floor and the impressive interior of building. The staff were very friendly at all times and not at all overbearing. For starters we had smoked salmon traditionally garnished which looked a bit too simple to me but my fiance assured was very moreish, and wood pigeon with lentils. This was beautifully done and was quite a hefty portion in itself. For mains we had the pastry filled with wild mushrooms and quail eggs, and the above recommended fish stew. They were both luxurious and rich, and were promptly finished off. To finish we only had room to share a single portion of the chocolate fondant. A thoroughly memorable and enjoyable evening, in a restaurant I can't recommend enough.
