I took my husband here recently and seriously regretted it.

The food was fine, not outstanding but ok. A bottle of rose Bordeaux was extremely good.

The staff were brusque at best and downright rude at worst. The service was also extremely slow, even though the restaurant was only half full.

However, my husband contracted salmonella poisoning from the meal and was extremely ill for the next month. I called the restaurant's head office to tell them about it and they quite simply were not interested.

I really wouldn't recommend this place.

We visited the Cantina two weeks ago and I've been meaning to write about my below average experience ever since. Advice would be to avoid if you possibly can, I would expect better things from a Conran. Firstly there is no non-smoking area in the restaurant - I am not a fanatical anti-smoker but I do like to enjoy my food without having to fight the smog to get at it - the restaurant is incredibly smokey and as tables outside can't be booked there is not really a case to argue. My friends and I arrived at 9.00 pm and were shown to a table inside - admittedly when we asked to move away from the table of 6 smokers next to us the waitress happily obliged, however the rest of the service was not so impressive. We had to ask for our water twice and service was generally a bit sloppy and not at all attentive. The food was distinctly average - we skipped starters and went straight to mains. I ordered the risotto and my boyfriend the swordfish - the other couple opted for pizza and swordfish again. My BIG concern here was the speed with which the dishes were delivered, at I guess I would say within about 11 minutes of ordering. We barely had time to enjoy a few sips of wine and the bread and oil before we were being handed our plates. The boys complained that the fish wasn't particularly tasty and from a glance the pizza looked as good as Pizza Express, certainly not exceptional. My risotto looked like a large plate of vomit, and tasted marginally better. Another problem was the lack of aircon. It was an incredibly hot night and without aircon we were forced to eat our supper with small beads of sweat hanging attractively across our brow - thank god this was not a date otherwise I very much doubt we would have been in contact again. Coffee followed, thankfully outside (we spied a free table and asked to move) The bill was £25 each, not expensive but then we only had 1 bottle of wine between 4 and mains/coffee so about right. I will not be recommending this place to anyone and strongly suggest if you are in the area you find another establishment to offer your business to.

Avoid this one at all costs!. I found crockroaches in 2 of the dishes!! When I pointed this to the waiter he quickly took it away and did not even return with replacement food. When I spoke to him again he 'refused' to speak English?!I'm suprised it hasn't been closed down.
