Le Garrick

I'd been to Le Garrick several years ago and had high hopes of our return visit. Sadly, I was very disappointed. The cosy ambience is completely ruined by poor, thoughtless, bordering-on-rude service, distinctly average food, poor value for money and an uninspiring menu.

For example, one and a half scallops and a hint of salad cost £7.95. And the steak was worse than Chez Gerard.

Service was really very poor - staff are defensive and unhelpful. For example, the waitress berated my partner for leaving his coat in her way and "making her step on it". Hmm. We sent one dish back (politely!) because it was not as described on the menu and received a shrug and a "what do you expect?" Well, I expected much more and won't be returning.

If you're in Covent Garden, go and eat in the basement at Cafe des Amis or head to Bedford and Strand. Both have similar prices, much better quality and excellent ambience/service. And the cheese at Cafe des Amis is awesome, unlike that at Le Garrick.
