Hakkasan

We went to Hakkasan on Friday evening to celebrate a friends birthday and so it was a special event. On arrival, one of the guests approached the front of house to ask if they would bring out a birthday cake at the appropriate time. Apparently Hakkasan prefer guests not to bring this type of thing to the restaurant, as we were told that there would be a £5 charge per person for this and we would not be allowed to eat the cake on the premises!

The evening went from worse to worse. The staff at Hakkasan were more interested in themselves than customers. They were surly to the point of rude and getting any kind of service was extremely difficult. The food was faultless, which it should be at this level, but to add insult ot injury a service charge of 13% was added to the bill of some £650. If it hadn't have been such a special occasion for a special person we would have made a fuss. This was an example of a restaurant who thinks it is too good for its customers, well at the least the staff thought so. We eat out in London at top establishments on a weekly basis and my husband more so for business. Hakkasan will be one to be avoided in the future.
