Cafe Mode

I've been eating in Mode since it first opened, and every time I go back I remember just how fab this place is. Staff are universally friendly, bright and competent, the food is fabulous (pizzas are especially good) and it's a joy to come here.

It's heartening that an independent restaurant can exist in the area and not be put out of business by the chains. Excellent work, and a great little restaurant.

Busaba Eathai (Store St)

Had dinner here last night. The food, it has to be said, was delicious (Pad Kwetio and Goong Tohd Prawn) but the service veered from fabulous to draconian, depending on which server appeared.

We sat outside and I don't know how many times they came out to check that our bags weren't sititng on top of their little in-built lights. At least 5 times, now that I think about it. We reassured them that we had taken on what they'd said, and that they could feel free to pass on the message to their colleagues, but still they came, checking up on us, leaning over our meals to make sure we weren't misbehaving like naughty children. Probably whilst starving diners wondered when they'd get their orders taken.
