Zinc Bar and Grill

One of the worst experiences in London. From the atmosphere, which resembles more a canteen rather than a restaurant, to very slow service, forgetting some orders it goes over to the menu: Little choice, Wine list very narrow and all completely overpriced.

Although I had asked for medium rare steak in came well done. As the service was so slow I did not want to complain and loose further time (we had 90mins to be there before other arrangements and they managed us to be late, even though we only a quick starter, main, no coffees)...

I guess the steak would have been better in a pub, the wine less pricy, the atmosphere much more personal and more efficient. Unless everything is booked out, try to avoid it.

Osteria dell'Arancio

A good experience although am not overly excited about it. Location a little off-track, decoration "different" and thus pleasant. Wine list is average and food good, although not over the top. Consequently overpriced.

Frankie's Knightsbridge by Marco Pierre White

Very poor experience. Decor and atmosphere is very poor (why do they need someone standing outside the door? The restaurant was never even half full

Disco mirror balls, mirrors everywhere, cheap leather,... but you're not done yet. Wine list is extremely poor and food is average at best (give it a 3: the steak was OK, although too salty). Far not worth the money.

Service very poor. How can a waiter claim the wine to be fantastic when it's below average (and still the most expensive one on the menu). Food reminds me more of a canteen. One of the group ordered Sole, and except half a lemon, there was nothing on the plate, not even a sauce, side salad or even the slightest hint of decoration. It looked as if coming out of the microwave. Without any effort you'd probably get it better doing yourself at home.

Not worth to spend more time reviewing it, please don't go.

Zimzun

If you're in search of Asian food, this is the choice. While Atmoshpere may resemble the one of bigger chains, the friendly and well attentioned staff make you feel quickly very comfortable and the quality of what you'll eat will make you forget you're in Fulham Brdwy center.

If in the area it's my first choice.

Locanda Ottoemezzo

Astonished by the food and the wine, service was excellent as was the decor (although some of the restaurant is in the basement, which is were we sat, you feel comfortable). Downside would be it is a little expensive, but in line with other Italian hip restaurants with food is far far better.

Emiles

Small restaurant with friendly atmosphere. It's nice to be in there. It's calm, staff is friendly and the quality of the food makes this restaurant, rather people, choice of DJ or whatever other restaurants do to attract people. A highly enjoyable experience to which not only Putney locals should adhere. Very reasonable prices and good choice of wine list.

Cactus Blue

went there 2 or 3 times. It's a hip place, more a bar rather than restaurant, and thus very crowded. Try to get a table at the back where people from the bar will not stand right next to you while you eat. Staff is a little arrogant which seems in line with most people going there. Music is loud and food is average, a little overpriced. Go there to combine "clubbing" and having diner. Then you'll enjoy. Going just for the food and you'll be disappointed. Wine list could be improved but then I guess it's the same as from the bar.

The Wolseley

My wife and I went there after going to the opera for a late night bite. Although 11pm there was no problem of getting a full dinner. Atmosphere like a Paris brasserie but with far better service. Fast, efficient and friendly. We may have been asked our selection before having finished looking but I take it more as being attentioned and avoiding us to wait eternally to order. Quality of food was as expected very tasty, perhaps not as sophisticated as you'd expect it to be in such a place and thus perhaps a little pricy. Bottom line is that it was perfect venue to finish the night in elegance and style. Accessible higher end restaurant with no elitist atmosphere.

Lives up to its reputation

Octave Restaurant & Jazz Bar

Went to Octave yesterday and it has been a very good experience. Staff was very friendly and service excellent (however, on one of the dishes the presentation was messed up as the topings collapsed and waiter did not take it back to have it fixed, and while the wine was opened while we had cocktails, they forgot to come back and make us taste the wine, but then, these are minor things). Very pleasant.

We actually went there for the music and I was positively surprised but quality of food. OK, it probably will be better in a nice restaurant, but value for money is fabulous. Dining area and bar area nicely separated. Bottom line is atmosphere is superbe. Not overcrowded but still well filled, live music (although perhaps a little too loud for diners) cool to listen to. Cocktails we had were excellent.

Only downturn could be the entrance, which is a little too flashy, and some more understatement would add to it, but once inside, you forget anyways while sipping away cocktails listening to the music.
