Restaurant Gordon Ramsay

Another review to pile on the praise ..because, in my opinion, every bit of it is well deserved.

7 course tasting menu, three extra free-be dishes, two of my wine choices and two glasses sensibly chosen by the sommelier, and to finish off they offered a tour of the kitchen.

Every aspect of our 4-hour stay was utterly faultless. Yes the dining room is small and very busy, but then this is not Pizzaland, and booking a table is not the smoothest of experiences, but then this place is as popular as it gets.

Awesome, and worth every penny!

Fire & Stone

Took my three year old on a meal deal through Last Minute dot com. £8.50 for pizza and prosecco. Not bad pizza, not bad prosecco. Had a couple of desserts too. Not bad. Overall bill £26, ...not bad. Our waiter, however, was rather good; unfortunately, he was a lone voice in a cavern of indifference. 4 times one waiter simply blanked us (as we were not his table), as did the maitre d', as waiting tables was not her job. Surely providing a good customer experience is everyone's job. This is all easily fixed though; they just need a manager with a bit of passion. Reading the other reviews this seems to be a common theme. Maybe they'll take note.

All in all this dining experience could have been "not bad". As it was, it was just "not that good". My three year old enjoyed himself.

Great food, and a bargain with the offer that was available through this web site (£18 for 3 courses from the regular menu + champagne). My second visit with friends, and as with the last time there were only 2 other diners in there on a Friday lunchtime. Lovely place, but dining almost solo is a rather antiseptic affair. This place deserves to be much busier. So if you read this, do something about it. Go. You won't regret it.

China Tang at The Dorchester

I found this to be much better than most of your reviews would suggest. Beautifully cooked food, and hyper-attentive service. The bill was stratospheric, but with such lavish surroundings, and squillions of staff, was it ever going to be otherwise? I was just so surprised how big the place is, filled to capacity, noisy, and with so many little kids (bet they'd rather have had a McDonalds though). Only disappointment is the adjacent bar. If you go up yourself, queue to get served, they still add a service charge on your drink.

New Golden Palace

Not bad, but then not good. The food was well cooked, nicely presented, and reasonable value for money. Crispy lamb (rather than duck) with pancakes was an interesting change. Their menu says something to the effect of The Golden Palace is the centre of Chinese cooking in England. In a neighbourhood restaurant making claims like this are always going to leave a diner disappointed, especially if they've been to such notables as China Tang and Hakkasan. The service was indifferent, and the woman we took to be the manager positively humourless. Service was automatically included, but then we were presented with a hard copy credit card slip and pen with which to enter service (again) which they could then punch into the portable terminal. I pointed out they'd already included it, to which we were given a look to kill at 40 feet. There's hoping people will tip twice, and then there's trying to positively rip them off. Will they ever stop this? I don't know, because I won't be a customer again for this one act alone.
