Scoffers Kitchen

Really poor. Trading on the fact that it is in a good location and that there is a regular clientele of people with deep pockets and no taste in food. Starters are mostly out of the freezer and into the deep fat fryer- nasty little crab cakes and won tons. Smoked salmon on blinis was poor- tiny portion of salmon (it's not that expensive these days, guys) on pancakes out of a packet, with an inexplicable sauce that seemed to be ketcup mixed with something or other. Main course fillet steak was overcooked (asked for rare, got medium- rare) and hadn't been rested, though the meat wasn't bad. Chips were frozen and flabby. Bearnaise sauce, inexcusably, was out of a bottle.

It would be OK for a bit of cheap nosh, but that steak was 17 quid- for that money it should be immaculate. Bill for three, two courses, two bottles of wine: £120. It wasn't actively awful, but it is at least 25% more expensive than the food justifies. Management were apologetic but offered no discount. Service pleasant but nothing special. If you must go, sit in the front room, not out the back with the view into the gents.
