Arquati Bistro & Restaurant

We went here on my birthday earlier in April. We hadn't booked anywhere but this place had good ratings here so we thought we would try it out. It was smaller than I expected and quite busy at that time (6:30) but luckily they had one two-person table left. The food was really lovely, not too fussy, with a really good choice on the menu - I had difficulty deciding what to go for. The staff were really helpful but unobtrusive (and actually Italian - which is a rare find in London). The meal for two of us with a few drinks only came to just over £40. The tip was added onto the bill, but we certainly didn't mind paying. Later on in the evening they turned down the lights and brought out candles and the atmosphere was very different, really nice. We would definately come here again.

Porters English Restaurant

My husband and I have been several times to this restaurant over the years and it has become one of our favourites. The food is always lovely and the bar staff very friendly when you are waiting for a table (without a booking, as we normally do). The only thing to remember is that you only get one 'side' (i.e potatoes or veg) so we always order extra ones, but the prices are very reasonable and we have never spent more than £40 between us. The syrup sponge is not to be missed and the gingerbread pudding is great too! The only downside is that the tables can be quite close together.

This was a very disapointing experience. My main course, guiltless chicken platter - supposedly a healthy option, was loaded with salt. Even the vegetables were covered in it and the chicken was a bit burnt, dry and very salty - inedible. The other meals were also quite salty, although not quite as bad, (mind you, my husband couldn't finish his mash, which is unheard of!). The waitress was very apologetic and it was taken off the bill, at my request, although it still came to £40, with no alcoholic drinks or dessert. On the bright side, the cheesy garlic bread was lovely. Even so, we will not be returning.
