Pied a Terre

We had a good time at Pied a Terre, but good isn't really good enough when you're paying £100+ per head. We opted for the tasting menu and at this level I expected every single course to be perfect, I think about 6 out of the ten courses were spot-on with the rest not meeting the expectation. The Pan Fried Foie Gras course was served with (drum roll) onions and a wine sauce with a powdery dry borlotti beans in a slimy ravioli. Not good. "Ziss iz one of chef's signature dishes" announced our waiter. OK.

In fairness there were a few real corkers, our lamb main was a triumph of flavour combinations and first class technique and The Bitter Sweet Chocolate Tart, Stout Ice Cream and Macadamia Nut Cream was simply the best chocolate experience I've ever had. Give me more!

If you book a table be sure to ask for something 'in the back' as the 3 or 4 tables at the front of the restaurant can get a bit quiet and boring.

The Eagle

Come here for inconsistently great food, served by charmless staff in attractive yet overcrowded room. Or maybe don't.
