Le Garrick
The Garrick is a no nonsense 'Bistro'. Their Steak Frites is great. It is a traditional French cut, onglet, which is beef skirt. It is so tasty as long as you like rare/medium rare meat.
The charcuterie plate is great value.
Try it, its friendly and quirky.

Porters English Restaurant
I eat at Porters at least once a month and have never experienced the problems of the other reviewers. I have had the odd miss but have found, over the years, that I have had very much more hits. Last week it was Chicken and Ham Pudding with mashed potatoes; fabulous. Served by Chris, brilliant. With a pint of clear London Pride, £15 +/-, in Covent Garden, very reasonable.
Will go back toward the end of next week.

Wolfe's
Not what I expected.
Not unpleasant but not brilliant. If you are looking for quantity then this is your place, there is no denying that they are generous. Our food was a little hit and miss.
The tables are a little close together for me which made it feel a bit cramped.
I will probably give Wolfe's another go as it was entertaining in a 70's posh restaurant kind of way.

Porters English Restaurant
I have been regularly going to Porters for 15 years and thought it high time that I reviewed this establishment.
Michelin it is not. No frills, solid cooking it is. The colour scheme of the place may have changed a little but the quality has not.
I normally dine alone with my paper and have one of their pies, highly recommended, and a nod and hello from every member of staff. I dined with a guest last Friday, who had a pie and agreed with me, I had the cod as I saw someone else with one, and loved it. Crispy beer battered cod sitting on top of the chips, like a chip shop but on china.
I have to be honest and admit that I have had the odd duff dish over the years but that no one gets it right 100% of the time; and I’ll take 99% as they do their best when I have had a problem. It is comforting to see that there are still some truly independent restaurants left in the West End that are not owned by media hungry chefs.
