Signor Sassi
We booked an early 7 pm table and by 8 pm the place was noisy, lively and full of atmosphere. This is a truly authentic Italian experience. The waiters were attentive, friendly and charming and amusing. This restaurant serves the freshest fish (and meat) cooked perfectly. The Olives, Parmesan and Tomato Bruschetta brought to us as nibbles were top notch. The Fritto Misto Portofino was fantastic, so fresh and perfectly cooked, and a huge portion. This was followed by Lobster & Crab Ravioli and Seafood Risotto. To be honest, the nibbles and starters were so enormous that if I had skipped the main course I wouldn't have been any less satisfied. The main courses were highly and well seasoned, a rarity these days but be warned the portions are generous so choose wisely. We washed this down with a couple of bottles of very good Gavi and followed up with gorgeous hazelnut ice-cream, poached pears and creme brulee. All top notch. This is a buzzing, lively restaurant. Love the maitre d' who practically clipped my husband round the ear for trying to pour his own wine. He is very dead pan in that very Italian way. On arrival you will be charmed by the flower bedecked building and location, the welcoming decor and the general feeling of well being oozing out of the diners. Having eaten at San Carlo Liverpool (part of the same group) I was expecting more of a chain restaurant, albeit top quality, feel, but this is out there on its own as a real contemporary Italian. We came out of there crammed to the gills and smiling. What more can you ask for, A wonderful experience and top of the list for a return visit.
