El Pirata

I went there on Valentines Day as a special treat, and it certainly was! Delicious tapas, hearty proportions and excellent service. The atmosphere was lively, yet remained intimate - which is often difficult to find on Valentines Day.

We were a little late for our table but that wasn't a problem and the very friendly staff were more that accommodating.

Brera

Went there on Thursday evening and took advantage of the 50% food offer. Had the chicken liver terrine which wasn't my cup of tea. The seafood risotto was full of flavour but not amazing and the chocolate fondant with coconut ice cream superb. My guest had the truffle soup, one of the pasta dishes and the tiramisu all of which she said were delicious.

The atmosphere and decor of the place was classy and comfortable and the service very good.

With a bottle of wine and the 50% offer the meal worked out at about £30 per head including service which was good value. However I'm not sure that the food, despite the attractiveness of its presentation, was tasty enough for me to have forked out another £35 on it.

My Old Dutch (Holborn)

Went here on Friday night in a group of about 13. Had a lovely mixed Dutch Hor'Deuves platter with some health portions of gouda and edam and some roll mops whichmy friend said were the best he has ever had! Followed this with some lovely pancakes which were deceptively filling. All agreed the food was lovely and at just over £20 per head for 2 courses and a healthy amount of alcohol every one was happy they had good value for money. The service was friendly but the waitresses were ceratinly skilled at avoiding eye contact and we generally had to grab someone whenever we wanted more drinks. All in all a good night out and some lovely grub!
