Les Trois Garcons

This is the kind of place to go for an occasion. We went for our anniversary and it was lovley, really romantic, interesting and a special evening. The decor really is must see and the atmosphere is buzzing but relaxed.

The wine list is rather expensive but it's the kind of place to savour your wine I think! I'm not wine expert but we had a lovely bottle of pinotage at £35 and some very good port with our cheese.

It's not a great place if you don't eat meat. Almost all the dishes including fish come with chorizo or something similar but then this is usually the case with French food. To start I had some lovely tea smoked trout which had a lot of flavour and good sauce on the side. The mushroom gnocchi was lovely with pine nuts but the creamy sauce was a bit salty. The cheese was also very good and I was surprised that one platter was big enough to be shared between two. With this type of cuisine the portions are always a bit too small but the restaurant is great for a special evening out. The stuffed bulldog wearing a tiara and angel wings was a treat to look at throughout the meal!

Faded glamour, with excellent food and wine sums this place up!

ORA Restaurant

We had a really good meal here. It's very tucked away and discrete but quite swanky and modern inside. The staff are really atentive and it's well managed.

The food we had was very flavourful and tasty. I had calamari in light batter with a lovely sweet dip. Not overcooked which so many restaurants do. The a green pumpkin curry with lots of interesting veg I'd never heard of or tried before. The portions weren't massive but very tasty and well cooked.

The value for money was better than a lot of other restaurants in this very pricey area but this is not a rustic cheap thai - it's a classy restaurant with a good menu and wine list. All in all they seem to know what they were doing and we had a very pleasant evening. The lighting (which other people complained about in their reviews) seems to have been toned down as I didn't find it too bright or distracting.

The Light

Incredibly over priced food and drinks in the bar area of the light. Shame as it's a lovely building with great outdoor space. The bar food was good (a mixed tapas platter was what we ordered) but very over priced. Drinks were also shockingly pricey with a pint of beer around £5. In the end we paid about £35 for 2 beers a couple of snacking platters. Much better places in the area if you walk a little further towards Shoreditch.
