Stingray Cafe

Have eaten here a few times and it's always reliable and great value for money. e.g. £10 for a house bottle of wine or £2.50 for a sorbet. The pizzas are delicious and very reasonably priced and the service is friendly. It's a great place for a long relaxed lunch if you don't want to spend a fortune. They also do gluten free pizzas.

The Narrow by Gordon Ramsay

I ate at the Narrow just over a week ago with my husband and two friends. We were left very disappointed.

We didn't exactly get a warm welcome from the reception but we let that pass. We were early so we were asked to get a drink at the bar as our table wasn't ready, which was no problem. However, when my husband asked the barman if he could add the drinks to our bill, he was very rudely told only if he gave a credit card, even though he had used his credit card as a guarantee when he booked the table. When I queried this with a waitress, we were basically told it was too much trouble to match the bills up and not really given a proper explanation. The bar was not busy at all at this point. Other pubs can do this so I can't understand why they can't.

We had a (different) friendly waitress in the restaurant but we were given our starters far too quickly: they arrived before the wine we'd ordered to go with them, and then we had to chase our wine. We were also cold because there was a window open next to us which they couldn't close.

When we got the bill, we were also taken aback to find we'd been charged £1.50 for extra bread. The food at the Narrow is not cheap so we felt this was a bit off and creates a bad impression (and we weren't told it would be charged). Our friends were visitors to London who were excited about eating there, but we definitely would not return.

The finishing touch was I emailed the Manager about this a week ago and they didn't bother to respond.
