Canta Napoli (Chiswick)

Pleasant welcome and a decent table. The waiter was worked off his feet and the place was understaffed but he did his best. He cam to take our order but broke off and returned a minute later after he had seated someone else. The wine was decently priced and good. Value for money. The starters were ok (mussels, bruschetta, palma ham and buffalo mozarella). The main courses were less impressive. The two pasta dishes were of decent size but lukewarm, long on pasta and less long on sauce/meat. The steak cam exactly as specified but the accompanying mushrooms were dowsed in a huge amount of oil and the piece of meat was not very good and contained gristle. When both these things were mentioned to the waiter he took them to the chef, came back and said nothing about the meat but how we could have less grease if we specified this next time. I'm afraid there won't be a next time. If the food had been better this would have been good value for money.

Popeseye Steak House

Quite quiet on a Saturday night. The service was friendly and efficient. You have to, of course, like steak as there is nothing else and no starters but given the main course is more than adequate that is not a big drawback. Didn't have room for dessert. Good selection of wines. The house wine is reasonably priced but if you choose something else you have to go up at least £12 so maybe some bottles at £18-£20 would not a a bad idea.

I think the bill is a bit more than it might be for what it is. not enough to put me off but they are being a little greedy.

St Pancras Grand

Good atmosphere. Staff friendly and efficient.

Went for lunch and the place was quite busy. Wanted to chat and we were not hassled in any way we we stayed on.

My starter of doubled baked souffle was excellent. The soup was poor (watery and lacking in taste). Mains were ok. Fish and Chips plentiful and not greasy.

No room for dessert.

Overpriced for what it was but not absurdly.

Good service, friendly and helpful. Generous portions. House wine recommended and reasonably priced. Worth it if you are in the locality.

Strada

Food ok. Went on a Friday evening early. They were quite empty but the meal still took forever. The service was pleasant when it happened but why it took so long was a mystery.

Browns

We were in a large group. Service was pleasant and efficient. Good atmosphere in the restaurant.

Food was variable. A couple of starters were really good. Main courses. Liver overcooked (but not so far as to be rubbery). Fish had tired batter. House wine reasonably priced.

Overall a decent experience and reasonably priced.

L'Aventure

Easy and efficient booking service. They were welcoming. Not that easy to park mind you so allow a little time for that.

Set prices menu with plenty of choice for each course and also a couple of specials each day. Both starters and main courses were excellent (no room for dessert). They had run out of the first wine I ordered but suggested another which was good and slightly cheaper.

The atmosphere was nice and the service made you feel looked after but not intruded on. Worth another visit.

Mumtaz

Have had good meals there in the past but the last two have both been poor. Last night they started by pouring a glass of wine over my wife. The apology was cursory, no replacement for the wine and later nothing off the bill. When I pointed out that

a. the bill had drinks we has never had and

b. charged 12.5% for service and

c. did not reflect the accident they had caused they then removed the extra drink and offered 20% off which I then reduced a bit further.

They were busy and wanted to bring our starters and main course together which we declined. We asked 4 times for water glasses. Some of the food was ok but the Chicken Pasanda was tasteless and one of the starters was cooked in some very old and stale oil. Time to try some alternatives to this place I think

Restaurant Michael Nadra

The food was good. There is a tasting menu that seems expensive at £42.50 but the standard menu had a smallish number of choices but good variety and was cheaper. Both starter and main (fish) were well cooked and plentiful. An amuse bouche arrived and was tasty. The idea of a fixed price for each course i.e. all starters £8.50 is ok but in all sections there seemed more exceptions than dishes at the standard price and none of the deviations were downwards of course.

I didn't much like the table (cramped) or the service (snooty head waiter, long gap between starter and main course). The wine was good but overpriced for what is was.

Trattoria Bardigiana

They don't seem all that pleased to see you. The food was ok and arrived fairly quickly. The intention seemd to get you to eat and go away quite quickly so they could move on. There are better offerings in the area in my view.

Sarracino

Went on a Sunday evening. The starters were excellent (I had a carpaccio of tuna). Mains had some unusual dishes. The one I chose did not work but maybe I was unlucky. Wine was fine and resaonably priced. One of our party had a steak which was a decent size and cooked exactly to order. Presentation of the dishes was good.

The one thing I did not like was the service. It was perfectly polite but over-attentive and there were two, one waiter, one waitress who did not communicate so that after one had come round to fill the wine glasses the next one arrived 30 seconds later and this went on throughout the meal even after I had twice asked we be left to pace ourselves with the wine. I thought this spoilt an otherwise reasonable experience.

Atithi

Our local indian closed. It had been there for about 50 years but although dated was sorely missed. We tired several others locally and were delighted to come upon this place. The sevice is welcoming and friendly. They are efficient and everything comes with a smile. The menu is not as gigantic as many Indian places but what they do they do well. All the food is freshly cooked and tasty. The bill at the end is very reasonable and typically they offer an digestif as well. One to go to if you are in the vicinity in my opinion.

El Parador

Don't understand the comments about rude, slow, poor service. I went for the third time last night in a party of six. Everyone was pleasant, friendly and efficient as they had been on previous occasions.

The food was as good as it had been previously which is very good. We ended up with about 15 dishes all consistently excellent, well cooked and hot.

The garden is definitely the better place to be but requires booking.

Club Gascon

We had the tasting menu of 5 courses together with 5 wines. sometimes with these you yearn for a sandwich when you get home but this was a good balance of interesting flavours.

The service was attentive without being overbearing and the atmosphere on a Tuesday evening was good. Farily full restaurant but not crushed or lacking in room. Overall an enjoyable experience to be repeated.

Day of the Raj

Had stopped going here because the food had become bland and samey but decided to give it another try after our local shut down and it was greatly improved and up to the standards it used to have.

Service was welcoming and friendly. Food was hot, tasty and well cooked. The bill at the end was very reasonable.

Glad it's back to standard.

Prince of Ceylon

The restaurant has had a makeover recently but I don't think that this has added to the atmosphere. In fact it had little. The service was slow but firendly enough. The menu was quite short ,in a strange order and lacked quiote a few "favourites" The food was ok but hardly inspired and we had the feeling of been there, done that and would not be that keen to return.

The bill was extremely reasonable.

It was a Sunday Evening and not very crowded but the service was slow and not all that attentive. The food was ok but hardly inspired. It seemed to follow a formula and have no originality or warmth as a restauratn. Disappointing compared to a previous visit.

Mandarin Kitchen

It was very busy on a Sunday evening and we hadn't booked but they made us feel welcome and we had to wait only about 10 minutes. The service was efficient and friendly.

When the food came it was without exception delicious and in ample quantities. Looking around there were a lot of Chinese customers which sounds like good news to me. 2nd visit there and impressed on both occasions.
