Le Vacherin
Really bad experience. A set menu with only one expensive (£35) option a three course menu. Choices were mediocre and not in line with the price being charged. For instance fried duck egg, endive salad or pate for starters; pappardelle and plaice for main (although you could get the chateaubriand for 2 for an extra £15). Dessert was pannacotta and choc fondant. Low end common food at upper-mid-range prices.
The quality of ingredients and presentation was questionable (not sure it really was duck egg, tartare sauce tasted like it came from a pot and fondant was fridge-cold in the middle).
Cooking was no good either: egg plate was dry and uninteresting, fish not properly cooked, fries very greasy. Fish was not deboned and impossible to eat.
Drinks were very expensive with dinner for 2 costing £145.
Happy to pay that if the food is worth it but based on what I ate, it was real poor value for the money. Could get much better experience somewhere else for that price.
Finally, I am French and this restaurant is a total sham. It does not reflect in any way a French experience. Even the decoration is lame and fake and cringing (especially when edith piaf kicks off in the background). The quality of the service is off. It tries to impress a sense of French formality but totally misses it. Nothing geniune here.
