Cay Tre

Beautiful food and a great range of hand-picked wines. The spring and summer rolls in particular are delicious - delicately spiced and full of flavour. I have been told that the pork belly is amazing but being vegetarian myself I can only comment on the beautiful veggie dishes - the kai choi greens and tofu steak are lovely. It can get very busy at weekends so be prepared to queue but it is well worth it, in my opinion.

Rasa Sayang

Okay, so the service here can be a bit brusque but for me the food definitely makes up for this. The vegetable curry with rice cakes is gorgeous - spicy yet full of flavour and bursting with varied veg (aubergine, cauliflower, carrot) as well as tofu and noodles. The gado gado is also wonderful - cucumber, tofu and beansprouts drenched in tasty spicy peanut sauce. Yum. When it's busy you can feel a bit rushed - don't go here for a long leisurely lunch - but if you're after great food then I would definitely recommend this place.

Maison d'Etre

This is a delightful new cafe just opposite Highbury & Islington station serving the best coffee I have had in a long time. They have a lovely little courtyard garden out the back where you can while away the day sipping lovely lattes and eating sumptuous tarts, home-made cakes and brioche with gorgeous home-made jam. It's really pretty inside too, with fresh flowers on the tables and proper china cups for your Earl Grey or Lapsang Souchong - the record player in the corner and local art on the walls are also a lovely touch.
