Gordon Ramsay's Boxwood Cafe

We called yesterday (sunday before bank holiday monday) on the off chance and a very pleasant lady agreed to accomodate us. We arrived in hte pooring rain and fortunately things got better from then on! The atmosphere is one of relaxed elegance. From the front desk and coatroom to the lounge and bar area, the Boxwood Cafe really does make you feel wanted. We sat in the main dining room and the chairs were extremely comfortable. The ambience was let down only by the fact that it was in an underground setting with no windows. That said, the decor is pleasant enough. Lively, yet well-chosen music played in the background but not loud enough to disturb conversation. Service was attentive and polite but not intrusive. We had the set lunch and the food was wonderful. I would imagine that the value for money rating would be lower if we were chosing from the more expensive a la carte menu. Our bread was refilled without request and the amuse bouche of onion and garlic soup (in an espresso cup) was simply lovely. The haddock, pea and chorizo salad to start was phenomenal (could almost have been a main) but I was a tad disappointed by the belly of pork starter. The veal main was amazing - the highlight of the meal - as was the bream. Desert was also very good. All in all, it is a great place to dine.
