The Jugged Hare
Had a great meal at this new Gastro Pub, “The Jugged hare”.
The pub was very busy, which is always a good sign and the restaurant part was also nearly full. Another good sign!
To start I had the black pudding "balls" with a Guinness sauce. I don’t like black pudding in the traditional way, but these were amazing!! For main, I shared "chateaubriand" which was probably the best I have ever had. Cooked perfectly. A dessert sharing plate and cheese plate finished off the meal.
The staff were very attentive but not in your face and also very fair when advising me on the wine. They did not have the standard default answer which is normally the most expensive bottle. There were wines of the week to try and if I didn’t like them, they would replace, no questions asked.
This place is defiantly worth a look if you’re in town. There is a good feeling about the place. Have a look on your way down to the toilets. The Chef has had a window put in to the back of the kitchen fridge. On display was a huge piece of beef, which I was informed, was being aged. Apparently, the week before there was a pigs head with a meat clever through it!!?? Excellent stuff!
These guys really know what they are doing.
