Hawksmoor Guildhall

This new steakhouse is hidden away in a basement but what a treasure! A huge room beautifully fitted out with comfortable seating. My favourite time to visit is for breakfast when you can take your time to enjoy a feast. Their special breakfast platter has everything with pork chops, sausages, black pudding, tomatoes and even bone marrow. This is one to share between 2!

Their drinks are exceptional and the service is also spot on. I still prefer Goodman nearby for steak at dinner but Hawksmoor has a better casual feel to it for breakfast and lunch.

City Caphe

This is a lunch favourite with take-away at least twice a week over the last year. The food is always delicious with enough choice to keep me happy. I prefer the noodle soups which have incredible depth but are light and fresh tasting to not make you feel heavy after eating. Sometimes will have one of their banh mi with a summer roll and salad if i want something cold, all so flavorful and healthy.

I have had pho a number of places now and theirs is really the best. I'm lucky to have this close for lunch but wish it was open evenings or weekend so I could take wife to try too.

The place has grown so popular and the queue starts before 12pm so now usually 4 of us will take it in turn to go and group order. They take cash under 15 so this way can pay by card as well. Its too busy to eat in so we always takeaway now. The family who run it are friendly and know a lot of regulars, and happy to chat about Vietnam when its quieter. They deserve success and city lunches are so much better for somewhere unique and real like this.

Goodman City

A very firm favourite for steak! The new Hawksmoor nearby may have fluttered my heart but this is my true love. Everything is spot on, atmosphere, service and food fantastic.

Best to book but usually can be accommodated if you wait at bar.

The Anthologist

This bar restaurant looks beautiful, they have obviously spent a lot of money on the design and interior. The cocktails are decent with some apparent 'skinny' options for those watching calories. The food however is very poor and lets it down. All show, served on wooden platters etc but poor quality. Fish portions meagre and not tasting fresh. Burgers dry and not cooked as requested. Puddings are uninspiring. Its lively after work for drinks but i wont be back for the food.
