Fantastic place. The restaurant itself is nice enough but don't expect anything special decor wise. But the service has been impeccable on both occasions. Attentive but not overbearing staff, professional but not at all stuffy.

The food is very very good. £40 for top notch ingredients cooked exceptionally well. I know this is not a cheap restaurant, but value wise it is very good. You can pay much much more than this in central London for pretty poor food and terrible service.

The sommeliers have always been very friendly and helpful and on both occasions have suggested a different wine to my choice for less than my selection.

The only downside to this place is that the food is very rich and so good I've overeaten everytime and usually feel like I need someone to roll me out of the restaurant.

Pizza Metro Pizza (Battersea)

Went here on a Saturday night and it was absolutely packed, though they managed to squeeze in four of us after only a couple of minutes wait.

Pizzas are fine. Very thin base which I guess maybe quite authentic, and reasonably tasty, but far too heavy on the tomato base. Ok, but certainly not the tastiest pizza's around. Service was pretty slow, though not surprising given how busy they were, though we did have to wait a bit and had to order our wine twice.

Wine is really quite overpriced for what it is. Only one bottle under £20, the house, which was pretty rough. The choice isn't huge and goes up to £60. Who has that in a reasonably prices pizza place?

All in all, ok but othing special but the atmosphere is quite buzzy. In the area, I much prefer the Pizzas at Donna Margherita (Lavender Hill) or Beuno Sera (Northcote Rd).

The Greyhound At Battersea

Fantastic. I've been here a couple of times and have not had a mouthful of food nor a sip of wine that hasn't been less than amazing. The best thing about this place is that it has some of the best food I have experienced but without the pretentiousness, or cost, of the top restaurants you will find in central London. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and manage to be informal whilst still making you feel special. We usually ask Mark, the co-owner and sommelier to recommend the wine to best suit our food choice and he has picked very resonably priced and very well matched wine every time. The only (slight) negative I can find is that the menu is fairly limited. However, that has caused me to choose dishes I would perhaps normally not and they have always been fantastic, no doubt due to the fact that with a small menu, the chef can concentrate on getting it just right.

A little out of the way, especially for those North of the river but trust me, you won't regret the journey.

The Gun

I had heard good things about the food here from a number of sources, and to be fair I wasn't dissappointed with the food. However, considering it's reputation and the cost of eating here, I don't think I have experienced service quite so poor. I was there on a Sauturday afternoon and the place wasn't busy, however, staff gave the impression that they found customers a nuisance and were more than happy to allow people to wait at the bar for service whilst they chatted amongst themselves and were certainly not interested in doing the rounds of the tables to see if people would care for more drinks, or even offer a desert menu at the end of the meal. We were sat in the bar rather than the dining room, we I can only hope has a better standard of service, but still, the bar food is not cheap and service should certainly be better than I would expect from a Wetherspoons.

It's a real shame as the food was great but I left the place feeling cheated and shall certainly not be returning unless I hear of a marked improvement in service standards.
