The Lord Stanley

The Lord Stanley was a profoundly unpleasant experience. I live in Camden where are two or three really nice Gastro-pubs, yet friends consistently recommended the Lord Stanley as the best. I have never been so disapppointed with a supposedly reputable place.

Firstly the bread and olives were unavailable. There was no bread. This was at 6pm on a Sunday, not a time to be running out of the basics.

My girlfriend is a vegetarian, so her one option was the goat's cheese risotto. It was tasteless, the rice was underdone and the goat's cheese was definitely on the turn. Not a great combination.

To be honest I wasn't that concerned, my beef was on the way. Ah yes the beef, the beef where we were told it was being served rare. Excellent we thought, it had to be quality meat. Goodness me, if fat flavours the meat, I don't understand why this wasn't the tastiest meal in the history of overpriced, pretentious pubs.

It was cold, far too fatty and frankly indedible. The vegetables were OK actaully, but £12 is a lot for a place of vegetable. I won't be going back and I wouldn't recommend anyone else does.
