Thai Silk (Waterloo)

Visited Thai Silk twice in the past fortnight. We visited the restaurant after having tried their delivery and being very impressed. Service was very efficient and once at the table, quite friendly. Our meals came out lightning fast, on our first visit, our dishes came within 3 minutes. It gave the feel of a budget airline trying to turnaround numbers as quickly as possible, to ensure the highest turnover.

The dish sizes are not particularly large, but quite tasty and authentic, and ultimately, this will be what brings us back again.

Visited this restaurant for lunch last week. I ordered a shoyo ramen (noodle soup) which was very good. It comprised pork, which was tender and tasty, the only problem being it had only two small pieces in it. The lunch menu was a cut down version of the dinner menu, with no real section for entrees. As korokke (potato croquette) is a typical entree in a Japanese menu, I thought I'd ask for some. Whilst it wasn't specifically listed as an entree, it was listed as a main, with miso soup and rice. When I requested it though, the waiter just looked at me and said "we've only got what's on the menu", so I replied and just said ok. He came back 5 seconds later, and informed us of the main meal potato croquette dish, to which I said no (we'd already ordered two main meals and didn't really want a third one between the two of us), at which point the waiter muttered something, threw his hands in the air and stormed off.

The price was very cheap for my dish though, but probably about right considering the little ingredients I received. The other dish was chirashi sushi, which was obviously loaded with fresh fish, but accordingly cost almost twice as much. I guess it's a case of you get what you pay for. Overall, not bad, not fantastic.

Have visited Sakura a couple of times in the past few months. The service, whilst not intimate, was efficient and pleasant. They have been very busy each time we've been there. Last time we opted for a counter, the only negative being that the waiting Friday night crowds, were almost on top of us as we ate. But the food made up for this, tasty fresh looking dishes that were reasonably priced.

The highly Japanese clientele and staff are probably a good indicator of Sakura's authenticity.

Da Paolo

Went for dinner last Friday night, and the service was great. Small restaurant enabling them to be quite attentive, but also not over bearing. The food came out fresh and steaming, generous size and very tasty. We're already planning our next visit.
