All reader reviews by cjj

Well, I don't know. It saddens me to read other poor reviews of one of my favourite restaurants. I've eaten at Hudsons a number of times and always enjoyed myself. I guess I'm one of the many locals (mentioned by another reviewer) who keep the place so very busy.

I've not noticed cold food. I've not had especially bad service, either. Among my friends, Hudsons has a good reputation and is one of our "reliable night out" restaurants.

The menu is varied enough to suit whatever mood you might be in on the night, and prices are fair. If you've travelled far to get to the place, you may be expecting more.

Chez Bruce

Given its reputation as a top restaurant, I expected Chez Bruce to be a too formal for my liking, but I was pleasantly surprised. This busy restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere of people enjoying their meals and each others company.

Thus settled on my first visit, I wandered through the menu and wine list and waited for my wife to put in a showing. After she arrived and disappeared off again to the bathroom, the waiter timed his appearance perfectly, allowing me to confess my ignorance of wine without an audience. His recommendation was spot-on, and blessedly affordable.

Dinner was absolutely superb, as it has been each time I've returned since then. This restaurant is right on top of the game, and is well worth the journey to Wandsworth Common.

In terms of value for money, this place is expensive (£60-£80pp for us) but I don't mind. It's great for treating yourself to a (very) fine meal without the inferiority complex that some top restaurants can give.

West End Kitchen

"Modern European" makes this sound fancier than it is. My colleagues and I are reminded more of school dinners, but in a good way.

Their lunchtime menu is decent value, from which I haven't ever really departed. WEK is fine for lunch, especially if you're local, but I wouldn't take anyone here to impress them.

China China

I keep coming back to China China--it's one of my favourites in Chinatown. Not too fussy and overdecorated and not too cheap and tacky.

The food is decent enough for chinatown, although this doesn't necessarily mean top-class cuisine. Portions are large, and if you're sharing with friends, you don't need to order a dish each unless you're very hungry.
