Have just eaten at The Lock for the first time - amazing food, beautifully cooked, lovely service. This place deserves to be packed.

Great Queen Street

I love this place - I've never failed to have a really enjoyable evening here. The food is great - simple and delicous, and the service is pleasant and well timed, but not intrusive.

I appreciate the fact they swifty bring tap water and a pile of excellent bread, and then will happily advise on anything on the menu you're not sure about.

The people who run Great Queen Street understand food, and you always get the feeling that the dish you choose has been prepared for you with care. If you want a charred steak smoothered in ketchup (as some reviewers seem to!) you'd be better off picking another restaurant.

Prices have crept up a little but it still represents good value - especially considering the quality and location.

Uffizzi

Great pizzas - fantastic value. The night we went the music was terrible and a bit loud, but that was probably only the case because they had a birthday party in, and it wouldn't put me off going again.

Worth avoiding the house red wine - but apart from that, pleasant service and impressive food for the price.

Eat17 Waffle House

I hate to say it but after eating here last week I agree with the other reviews. My sister offered to treat myself and my partner to a meal, but sadly it was more of an endurance test than a nice night out.

Despite having booked no one appeared to have our booking and we were placed in the cafe-like front of the restaurant. The menu was very limited. We ordered bread and oil (which in my opinion should be complimentary) after being told that the chicken dish my partner had ordered would take a while.

The bread was stale - unforgiveable. The food took a very long time to arrive and when it did the 'special' dish was dry and tough and uninteresting. The burgers were fine - definately the only saving grace.

The bill was very steep for a dining experience with poor service, poor food and poor atmosphere. It seems that whoever is in the kitchen isn't at all interested in food and has limited ability. This place could be brilliant - in the past I've had a couple of pretty passable lunches incorporting good ingredients from the deli. All it needs is to someone to take the menu, the kitchen and the service in hand, and start producing good, simple well cooked food. It would be such a shame if it carries on losing customers and has to close - a great, reasonably priced bistro is just what Walthamstow needs.

The Village Kitchen

After not visiting this restaurant for a year I desperately wanted it to be good - especially as the excellent La Ruga trattoria down the road appears to have shut down.

I hate to say it, especially as I usually enjoy eating out pretty much anywhere, but the evening was very disappointing. Despite the restaurant not being full we were seated at the back next to the kitchen door. It was hot, far too brightly lit, and we could see the waiting staff arguing with the kitchen staff through the serving hatch.

We had to wait more than ten minutes before we were brought a menu. I was close to walking out. The waitresses seemed very sweet but the service was, at best erractic.

The food was less than average. I had an unpleasant livery tasting chewy steak, my partner had a fish dish of poor quaility.

Walthamstow is very short on good places to eat out, but I wouldn't eat here again.
