On 7 March, 2006, my wife and I had just left a matinee performance of "The Mouse Trap" and saw that The Ivy was literally right across the street. it was raining and we decided we should not go further and tried to enter to discover the door was locked. But shortly, the door opened and a staff member told us they were not yet open but then graciously said we could come in out of the rain. We indicated we had no reservation but the Maitre D' said if we would sit in the bar he would see if there was a booking available. The bartender suggested a nice Pinot Grigio, the Maitre D' returned with an offering of a table, and we proceeded to have a splendid meal, attentively served. The experience was memorable and The Ivy is definitely on our list of "must eats" when ever we visit London.
