India Per Se

The food at Eriki is expensive but well worth it. Rather than serving the same dishes as every other local indian restaurant, they have more traditional Indian dishes. The quality of the food and it's presentation are more akin to a central London restaurant, rather than a local one.

Yuzu Restaurant

Yuzu has created comtemporary variations on traditional sushi dishes. The sushi tastes great and is well presented. The atmosphere is surprisingly chic for this part of the world, making the restaurant equaly suitable for a romantic meal as an evening out with friends. As other people here have noted, the service can be a tad rude.

Quaglino's

I ate at Quaglino's for the 4th time last month and was disappointed with every aspect of the meal. The restaurant, which was once a classic, has really gone downhill. Sadly, the prices have gone uphill.

On booking, I was told I have a two hour slot to eat up as there would be someone else at my table at 9:30 (kind of early to be done on a Sat night in London). This pay-and-get-out policy was reiterated by the hostess who sat us down.

Though the table missing a cloth is de rigeur at Quaglinos, I was surprised it was missing some cutlery, salt and pepper.

The starters and main courses were well cooked and I'd definately recommend the steak. I was somewhat disappointed that the desert menu had neither cheese, nor fresh fruit. I asked if it would be possible to have some fresh fruit and the waitress, after checking with the kitchen, told me that they didn't have any fresh fruit. The is somewhat surprising for one of the largest restaurants in London, especially as it has a cocktail bar.

The wine was terrible. For something costing £30, I was surprised to be served somehting that would have cost them in the region of £4.

Service was non-existant. Though the restaurant was not full, the waiters were too busy to pay any attention. After I received the bill, it took 10 minutes to attract a waiter to pay.

For poor service, bad wine and fairly good food, I was charged £130 for 2 people. This is the first time I have ever refused to pay the tip.

Dim T (Hampstead)

The food tastes great and the atmosphere is fabulous. The staff are hot, which is just as well as they're not good for anything else, especially keeping plates upright, remembering orders, paying attention to customers or being helpful. Still, the food is tasty and the prices are good so I go back time and again.

The only downside of the restaurant is the service, which is truly aweful. I go regularly and so have experienced many problems (and the occasional problem free meal).

The main problem is that the staff are selected on their looks, not their abilities. There's nothing wrong with this, as long as you don't turn up expecting good service. I've been served raw chicken in dim sum, duck when I ordered lamb (and the waitress insisted it was lamb when I complained, even though it looked and tasted like duck and presumably has "duck" written on the packaging in the kitchen), whole meals forgotten and been told by a waiter that the dish my girlfriend ordered was terrible - she advised ordering something else.

Meals can take anything between 30 mins and 3 hours, depending on whether the staff bother to serve you quickly or not, so you can never be sure whether you're going for fast food or a relaxed meal. I guess that adds to the excitement.

If you want great atmosphere, food with potential and hot waitresses, this is definately worth visiting.
