We went last night, and in short it was rather disappointing and lacklustre. At first sight it looks great, but the waiting staff, one lady, the manageress I presume by her attire left you feeling that every or any request is too much trouble the other could not follow the simplest instruction. These two ladies were the only staff on the floor in a busy restaurant.

The menu was limited, three starters and three mains, but aside from the limited choice the quality and presentation was really good. Id give the mixed meat platter a miss, only because there was nothing special about it. It came without bread, and we had to keep asking the waitress for bread, which she brought in a presentation basket, but as you had no side plate it was difficult to take more than one or two little bits. We did ask for side plates, but she never did understand what we wanted.

The mains were better, excellent in fact. I have the cod, which was really well done very tasty. The other half had ribeye, which was also excellent.

Half way through the main, we ran out of wine and asked the waitress for another bottle it never came of course. I left thinking what a shame, all the potential but in the end it was rather dull, excellent food left down by over worked and but ultimately poor service.

The Commander

Amazing - Amazing, I have to say it again because it was so good. The food was done to prefection. We went with a party of nine, and everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. I had the oysters which were just great, then I had the portorhouse steak - too much for one, but somehow I managed to pack it all in.

Best of all, was the waitering staff who were a delight, attentive but not intrusive. Go here if you want good food and exceptional service.

Yalla Yalla (Green's Court)

Great find - order lots of starters and give the mains a miss. Very relaxed and not stuffy like so many places in the west end.

Woodlands (Marylebone)

Fantastic - The food is amazing and the waiter was so helpful, he took care of everything and we were happy to put ourselves in his hands as the comprehensive menu was a little daunting.

He brought us an amazing selection of food!

Four of us had plenty to eat, several beers and the bill came to £30 per person including service. Go Here!

The Duke of Cambridge

On first impressions this place looks great and to be fair the staff were very attentive when we arrived and showed us to a well located table. I was surprised to find that there were no menus and our well appointed table proved to be in not such a great location for reading the blackboards (this being the only way of establishing what was on the menu). But that is no big deal.

The menu was very limited, as I recall there were only 4 starters and 4 mains, which I thought expensive for a pub, (mains ranged from £12 - £16, starters were around £6/7) There were six of us and we all had difficulty finding something of interest. Four of us ended up ordering the Sausages and Mash, but at 8.30 there was only one portion left. I got this portion and which was tasteless and bland. The mash was watery and flavourless, which at least complemented the sausages, which were tastless and rubbery. Honestly they would have done better to send one of the many idle chefs up the road to Sainsburys to purchase some of their organic range, they really could not have been worse.

As the restaurant got busier the service became very slow, though it was always polite and we all felt a bit sorry for the poor waiter. There seemed to be an abundence of kitchen staff, who seemed to spend a great deal of time arguing with each other and the waitering staff. To top it all it is expensive for what it is. My tastless main cost £12.00!

I will never darken the door again.
