Ikkyu

I've eaten here several times a year for the past five years, and it's been consistently my favorite Japanese restaurant in London.

OK, it's usually crowded, the decor is tired, and there's always the interesting dynamic to watch between the owner and staff. But the service is responsive, and the food unpretentious and excellent.

Thai Garden Cafe

I've had three very satisfying dinners here.

The menu is more varied and flavourful than most of the Anglicised or pan-Asian attempts at Thai food that I've tried in London.

Bring your friends so you can order one of the combinations; the seafood combo (A) was more than we could eat.

Prezzo (Euston)

I work nearby, and eat here every couple of months. Why? Because there are so few options in the Euston neighborhood. It won't win any awards from me for food, service, atmosphere or value, but neither is it a dive. If you're too hungry or cold or tired to walk up the road to Pizza Express, well here it is.

40 Degrees at Veronica's

I've eaten here three or four times now, and never been disappointed. The menu is creative, the service has been pleasant and unhurried, and the dishes well-prepared. The outdoor seating is ideal on a warm night; the restaurant is on a fairly quiet, green square. Read their menu beforehand online if you're trying to decide whether to go; I really like their 'medieval to modern' approach. PS I think it's just called Veronica's now.
