While I wouldn't normally post a review, given that the very poor reviews below, as to service in particular, nearly put me off visiting Hakkasan, I felt that I should report on a very enjoyable evening my fiance and I spent there yesterday.
We started with the obligatory pre-dinner cocktails in the bar. Plenty of bar staff, well mixed drinks. The hostess found us in the bar and showed us to our table where we were greeted first by a friendly but not imposing waiter followed by a knowledgeable sommelier who could discuss even the more obscure wine choices with confidence.
The food that followed was of a very high standard indeed, the salt and pepper squid and signature cod being particularly good. Dishes were well paced, we had plenty of time for dessert and sweet wine and there was no suggestion of hurrying us to leave.
Granted we did not try and take any photographs, but the service and attitude of staff, last night at least, was faultless. Possibly the key here isn't to expect silver service, Michelin star notwithstanding. The place is more akin to the E&O/Great Eastern type restaurants. The only issue I do have with Hakkasan is that they do not have a non-smoking section. At any restaurant that takes its food seriously, and charges correspondingly serious prices, I believe that diners should have the opportunity to enjoy the dishes in the absence of clouds of smoke.
If for no other reason, go to Hakkasan to people watch. The collagen/botox enhanced blonde wearing shades in the already dark bar was my personal favourite.
