Flaneur Food Hall & Restaurant

The alluring interior (delis are, after all, meant to be enticing) bode well. But things went downhill once we sat down. The starters of purple-sprouting broccoli, and a board of meats were nice. But the mains (gnocchi) were bland and uninteresting. The wine never arrived. The waitress didn't speak good English. And the bill was quite steep (about £35 each with wine and service) for what was an under-whelming dining experience.

Medcalf

My recent (first) visit to this former butcher's shop was delightful. For lunch, I had the special of chicken breast with mash. At last, a chicken dish that has taste! Truly delicious (chicken can often be so bland; not so here). A friend had the mackerel pate starter as a main course with a side order of mixed leaves. It tasted great, but the portion was on the small side, so best not to try that old trick if you want to sate your hunger. Our guest had the goat's cheese tart. Again delicious, but not the hugest portion you'll ever see.

All in all, a great place for a tasty lunch with personable (almost cheeky) service.

Patara (Soho)

Zen-like excitement at walking in (if such a thing is possible). The food was tasty, but my starter of satay meats was on the cusp of lukewarm and cold. We were a party of 7, and decided not to complain. However, my main of Sea Bass was cold. I was disheartened. I told my fellow diners, and they confessed that their meals were also cold. We then complained. The manager (without malice) said "what do you want me to do for you?". We told him that it was not for us to decide. In response, he gave us a Patara business card, and said that he hoped we'd come again.(!) We were quietly stunned. We skipped desert and left, without paying any service charge.
