Locale (East Dulwich)

Having gone for dinner with not-that-high expectations, I was pleasantly surprised. The interior is far more impressive than the exterior and the warm welcome on arrival was a good start.

We chose to be seated straight away, although were offered a drink at the bar even though we arrived more or less when we had booked for. Even so, still offered a drink to start and the waiter guessed exactly we wanted - quite impressive trick. Didn't feel at all rushed, even for a Saturday evening.

Onto the food - calamari to start, a bit predictable, but often predictable is good in a restaurant, and it tasted just fine. I then asked which steak to chose and was advised to go for the Argentinean sliced steak - which was about as perfect as I have ever tasted - beautifully presented, just the right amount, seriously delicious.

The wine was also good and reasonably priced

The service was also excellent, if not a little 'over attentive', which without prompting, the manager apologised for, and brought a couple of complimentary drinks for us. If my only complaint was over attentive service, then that is not such a bad thing.

Overall, an excellent venue, great service, and truly exceptional food - what a nice change.

Langan's Brasserie

I don't know where the rest of the reviewers went, but it doesn't sound like the Langans that I went to yesterday (maybe they had gone to Zuccatto's instead). Langans hasn't changed a bit and that is it's charm. Great selection on the menu, fantastic atmoshpere, good service all go together to make a great combination. The other great thing about Langans is the people who go there - ladies who lunch, used car dealers, business people, celebs and people who used to be celebs - such a good mix that is so different from so may of the stuffy corporate restaurants.

Langans has to be worth a visit, even if you only go once!

J Sheekey

Not quite meeting expectations - apart from the fantastic venue and great atmosphere, didn't like - waiting staff being trained on the job, waiting staff not having a full command of English, being constantly rushed to order, order next course, order dessert, having the mixed fish grill and having to serve, divide up and generally go to quite a lot of trouble, just to serve me and my companion without any help.

Overall, weak service, over priced, uninspiring food - there are plenty other, much better, restaurants in London - try them!
