The Ivy

Lunching on Monday 19 June, after a long anticipated wait, was not disappointing. Sharing this experience with a girlfriend on a one off expensive day out on the town (lunch followed by Covent Garden) was the highlight of our day. Friendly and approachable staff tended our every need but never pushed us. The delights of the creamy kedgeree with its perfectly cooked poached egg, light on the rice, and crispy duck on watercress with oh so subtle hints of Chinese flavours, got us off to a good start. My friend indulged in the calves liver which she admitted nearly had her beaten but it was beautifully cooked. Not wanting anything too heavy I opted for the dressed Dorset crab with shredded celeriac in a light mustardy dressing, exquisite. We did manage one fresh fruit and sorbet to share. Our wine was kept beautifully chilled and topped up before we noticed it was needed. Even declining coffee, which was offered when the dessert was ordered, we were left totalling in peace to chat with absolutely no pressure to have more drinks, or to pay up and go. A totally relaxing lunch one I hope to repeat. If I have to criticise anything, the loos could well do with a refurb and I wasn’t sure whether I really did enjoy the view of some form of sea nymph clutching a bright blue object in her hand which with my sense of humour I like to think was a razor!
