I have been to Marimba on many occassions now and have never been disappointed. A combination of a bar/restaurant, it combines the two with great execution, having a fantastic selection of South African wines and beers and providing the best in authentic African cuisine.

The food is fantastic. I would particularly recomment the lamb shoulder, the Ostrich Burger, the Springbok and the steak. The meat is always cooked as asked and comes with a great range of side dishes. The starters are varied and generous, ranging from calves livers, calamari, fish cakes and the Marimba salad. Not being South African,on my first visit, I was at a complete loss as to what the dishes were but the staff were extremely well informed and explained everything to me really well. The only thing I would suggest is making sure you go there with a very empty stomach as the portions are very large!

The staff on the whole are great, attentive without being obtrusive and looked well groomed and funky with their great T shirts. The fact that they were managing the bar at the same time was very impressive!!

The ambience is variable. You have to chose your days carefully. This place can be very romantic witht the walnut tables and leather chairs....but just make sure the rugby isn't on. If it is, grab your South African jersey and head along for some drinks with a great, roaring excuberent atmosphere!!

Will continue to return regularly
