My office is very close to **** so go there a lot. Yesterday managed to end up there twice - lunch and dinner. That's mainly because it has one of the few outdoor seating areas in Mayfair. At lunch the service was so so, they forgot several of the side orders and looked annoyed that we returned a late arrival side order of fries - as we'd finished eating!
Much worse, in the evening we had an early supper. We then started getting hassled by the duty manager to leave the table as "there were other bookings". The bill arrived minutes later and we were stood over until it was paid. As weleft we counted 10 empty tables outside. We challenged the receptionist who told us the tabkes were all booked but all 11 tables were late arrivals "due the World Cup". As she was spinning this yarn my patner read the booking diary and saw just two bookings yet to arrive.
It's so annoying this practise. On arrival we were not told the table was booked later. As it emerged, it was not booked at all, it's just hurrying along some customers who've finished eating in the hope the table can be sold again.
This place has a great location and the food is OK. Beware cheaper wines are paintstripper, but above £20 and you're OK. Seems the success of the place is allowing customer service to slip...
